Types of lawn mowers.:

The needs of a modest lawn of a small house garden and the extensive lawns of a golf course would not be met by a single type mowing/ cutting equipment. Ther4e are many kinds of lawn mowing equipment.

Reel ers: This type of lawn mower has a spiral de system spinning on a horizontal axis against a stationery horizontal de. This helps to cut the entangled grass to a smooth finish. This can be pulled or pushed manually or pulled by a tractor. The traction power also spins the de set about the horizontal axis. Large reel mowers need to be pulled by lawn tractors, usually the golf courses, large premises, stadiums etc., use them. Self propelling gasoline or electrical (by cord) or battery powered reel mowers were available.

Rotary ers: In this type of lawn mower, a horizontal fast spinning de set cuts the grass, by the sheer impact of fast spinning des. The impact by not so sharp des rather tears the grass des, instead of cutting smoothly. Obviously, it does not give smooth finish due to ragged tips of cut grass. Hence, it is not used for large stadiums, golf courses etc. These can also be gasoline or electrical (by cord) or battery powered.

Riding ers: also known as 'Ride-on mowers', these are usually rotary mowers with a gasoline or battery powered self propelling mowers which can carry the rider on them too. These tractor like equipment suits best to large grounds in institutes, city parks etc., where area of lawn to be mowed is more not the finish of mowed surface. Usually, it has a front steering axle with de set mounted mid-body. Sometimes, the de set in mounted on front side with steering axle in the rear.

Hover ers: In these advanced type mowers, a gas or electrical driven turbine pumps air down ward and floats the entire assembly on an air cushion, while the same engine drives the des too. Obviously, the mower needs to be light weight. As the mower floats in the air, it offers superior maneuverability of mower. Further, the float of mower helps cut tall grass or even small shrubs and it can be done by gradually lowering the mower.

Large scale ers: For large scale garden lawns and grounds the heavy duty or custom designed lawn mowers needed. Obviously, they need to be towed by a garden tractor (Gang-er).

Robotic ers: These are one of the most acclaimed autonomous household robots ever made. These electrical driven robots work in the lawn marked by a special demarcation wire.
