Pedure: You can use the following p
edure as a general guide and make changes to it to suit you. Remember the p
edure is not sacrosanct. The results

within 5 to 10 minutes per blade. Make a template of blade
file before you start y

ly. This is necessary to ensure that you do not

Tools required.
- Siphon hose and clean container
- Heavy w gl
s and goggles
- Dou-cut (medium-rough) flat file
- Lumber scrap
- Socket wrench set
- Rubber mallet*
- Bench vise or C clamps
- Rotary blade shaner accessory
- Electric dr*
- Screwdriver, or 1/4-in. rod or bolt*
- Blade balancer
- Replacem blade*

Pedure:
The pedure is given for the simple single blade
n mo
, but the same
l apply to all types of blades, whether single or dou
- Wear hand gls and clean the
ine and the gasoline tank from outside
- Rem spark plug from the
ine
- Rem all the fuel from the tank of the gasoline
ine. Use the siphon hose so you do not sp
gasoline on floor.
- Completely empty out the oil from gearbox if you have one
- Invert the ine and have access to the blade.
- Clamp the ine so it does not m
and clean the blade
a thoroughly
- With help of a box spanner, rem the nut holding the blade. Usually the nut
l be unlocked in the reverse to direction of rotation of
ine. You may
age the screwdriver in the cooling fan of
ine to stop rotation of
ine.
- If you find that you using too much force to unlock the nut, put one or two drops of rust removing chemical, and try after 30 minutes
- After you rem the blade, clamp it in the bench vise and sha
n it with a file or a grinder. Sha
n only the outer 2 to 3 inches. The

l be known if you see the blade.
- Shan only to the required ext
. Too much sha
ning is not necessary. This is not the knife. It w
s at the speed of the

- After shaning, check with y
thumb. Be c
ful not to cut thumb. If you have done sha
ning before, or seen some one doing it, you
l know what we mean by this.
- Balance the blade with help of a small balancing tool on VEE blocks, or even on two foot rulers pla side by side
- Refit the blades, ref
ine oil and gasoline and test the sharpness of blades on uncut portion of y
n
Safety tips:
- Always use safety goggles and hand gls when w
ing with po
tools.
- Be sure to rem the spark plug before starting. Serious accid
s can happen if you do not do this.
