If you have a nice playground setup, then you could have some form of soft material spread across the area under it to prevent any nasty accidents. Putting up a nice border can do a lot to keep all this contained in its rightful place.

This then natural spreads to landscape edging. This is a border established to keep your garden in the right space. You have a lot of options when it comes to landscaping. It is also possible to get some decorative bricks or stones and then build your own edging wall. This would let you get a nice boost in appearance and function, which is always a nice thing.

If this isn't enough for containment, you could always choose to use raised gardens. These are nice raised boxes which will actually support your garden in the air. This can completely eliminate any issues with organizing your yard and it will also serve to better utilize some spaces, especially if you choose to use a rail based system. Finally, lifting the gardens off of the ground will protect the plants from a number of local wildlife. It's just a win-win solution all around. The worst thing is just a limitation on space inside the actual raised garden.
